We’re keeping it easy for August - since we’re probably focusing on vacations or Burning Man or whatever shiny new thing in our life. So come on down to Shakey’s Pizza in Hollywood on Tuesday, August 19th at 8pm for some low key geek talk and pizza.
RSVP on upcoming so we know how many tables to wrangle. And bring $$ for beer and pizza and quarters for the arcade.

Crowdgather has over 60 communities today on many mainstream and niche & subcultural topics.
Heather has been an instrumental part in the surge in the technology scene in Los Angeles helping coordinate the BarCampLA, founding the LA Geek Dinners and has had her hand in a number of other projects including StartupLA, Twiistup, Lunch 2.0 & Mixergy. She has often been referred to as the ‘Mother of the rebirth of the LA Tech Scene”. Everyone please join me in congratulating Heather and wishing her well on her new adventure.
Today on Sean Percival’s blog we found the news that he’s packing up shop at Mahalo and heading over to LA tech startup DocStoc. It’s what appears to be a bittersweet job move as we have many friends and great respect for the crew at Mahalo.
From his blog:
“Today is going to be my last day with Mahalo.com. The last 8 months here have been an amazing experience for me. Truly unique and rewarding on so many levels. Leaving it behind has been a very tough decision for me. Big thanks to Jason and C.K. for giving me a chance and some footing in this crazy industry. Huge respect and gratitude to the Mahalo staff, both in-house and the many remote guides. There is no shortage of great ideas and people here; I’m certainly going to miss it all.”
Sean is a beloved member of the LA community and we’re glad he’s not leaving the city. He stands to make a strong impact at DocStoc heading up their content and SMO/SEO efforts and I hope you can all wish him well in his transition.
Thanks to everyone for showing up to beta test our friends at uWink. Although their system may have been slightly compirimised, all ended well with good food, awesome beers & drinks and great interaction. I’m just hoping they add animatronic Chuck E. Cheese Karaoke.
Join us at Mao’s on Melrose for the July’s Geek Dinner.
Way back during year 1 of the LA Geek Dinners we visited Mao’s in Venice - everyone loved it and had a great time. The Melrose location is much larger and we’re going to take it over in July.
Heavybag Media has been making waves since Jackie Peters landed brought the company to the west coast. As they’ve been booming they’ve recently hired long time geek dinner particpant and barcamper Nick Dynice as their Community Marketing Manager. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing nick for a few years here from the scene and his knowledge on emerging technologies & social behavior make a great fit for Heavybag. Along with this great news Andrew Justin has been promoted to Social Media Strategist. I think it’s a great match and I look forward to watching Heavybag thrive.
Ladies & Gentlemen gather round and lend a helpful hand back to the community. uWink is having our LA Geek Dinner beta test their new Hollywood & Highland location.
What’s uWink? uWink is a new restaurant concept by Nolan Bushnell, the man that bestowed upon us Atari & Chuck E Cheese, when we so needed it the most. We’ve tested their Woodland Hills location a number of times and are very excited to try this one.
This will be a pay for your own meal event. Looking for the right sponsor.
June 17th, 8pm
uWink, Hollywood & Highland
Official RSVP on upcoming and for those of you who want to spread the love, rsvp available on facebook too.
Hey Y’all. gather round for a little G-B-Q at the Ol’ Sternberg Ranch of Echo Park. A true old western favorite. A little earlier than usual, we’ll try to catch some sun at 7pm. We’ll be doing burgers, veggie burgers and anything else you can imagine.
$10 will cover food & alcohol and a spot to compete in the geek rodeo.
The friendly folks from TechZulu came up from the O.C. to cover our humble event. Here’s what they had to say. It’s really great to have Vak & Efren up and we all appreciate their wonderful coverage.
